Select your stab with numbers, not guesswork.

Pump foil stabs

Pick a brand, then two or three of its stabilisers, your front wing and your fuselage, and compare what each stabiliser changes: pumping stability, carving, power lost.

Legend
Year
Model year published by the brand or a retailer. "≈ 2025": the brand publishes no model year, so the year is estimated from the model's release date (product page going live, announcement, launch video).
Price
Public price of the stab alone, in euros, taken from the brand's website in October 2026, excluding any discount. The price links to the page where it was found.
Area, span and chord
Dimensions published by the brand ("—" when not given). The chord is the stab's mean width, area ÷ span.
Aspect ratio
Span² ÷ area. A long, narrow stab glides better; a short, wide stab turns more easily.
Stab type
What the stab does to your foil, computed with the chosen front wing and fuselage (stab area, distance between the two wings, front wing area and chord):
  • Lively. Responsive, faster foil, quick and light pumping, but needs precise footwork.
  • Balanced. In between.
  • Stable. Forgiving, damped foil, fuller pumping strokes, but slower and harder to pump.
The same stab can therefore be lively on a large front wing and stable on a small one.
Carving index (0-10)
The higher the index, the livelier the stab and the easier tight turns are. The lower it is, the more stable it is: it holds its line and forgives mistakes. Computed from the stab's span and aspect ratio.
Power lost at best glide speed
What the stab costs the rider, in watts, at the speed where the chosen front wing glides best: the stab pushes down to balance the foil, and that load plus its friction slow you down. Fewer watts means a setup that glides further. An asterisk (*) marks a stab whose span is not published: part of the drag is then not counted.
About this comparator

Foil stabiliser comparator

Compare a foil brand's stabilisers (rear wings) with your front wing and fuselage: area, span, chord, aspect ratio, stab type (lively, balanced or stable), carving index, power lost and price.

Small or big stab?

A big stab makes the foil stable and forgiving, but slower and harder to pump. A small stab is faster, turns better and unlocks pumping, but needs more precise footwork. A longer fuselage also adds stability.
